CIVAS Staff Nurse

Vacancy Introduction

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Community Intravenous Administration Service (CIVAS) in Leeds as a Band 5 Community Staff Nurse. This rewarding role involves delivering IV therapies, including antimicrobials, diuretics and antivirals, to patients in their own homes and clinic settings, supporting early discharge and reducing hospital admissions.

You will work as part of a small, experienced and supportive team, managing your own caseload while maintaining regular communication with colleagues. Your day-to-day work will include travelling across Leeds, carrying out patient assessments and administering treatments safely in community environments.

The service operates 7 days a week between 8am and 7pm, with shifts of 8am–4pm and 11am–7pm. This is a 22.5-hour permanent post requiring flexibility, independence and strong organisational skills.

A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential.

Full training in IV therapies will be provided alongside ongoing clinical supervision and development opportunities.

We encourage prospective candidates to get in touch before applying to arrange an informal discussion, ask questions, or attend a shadowing visit to gain insight into the role and meet the team.

To arrange an informal discussion or shadowing visit, please contact: Aimee Graham - aimee.graham@nhs.net and/or Beth Wilson - bethany.wilson2@nhs.net

As a Community Staff Nurse within CIVAS, you will deliver specialist IV therapy care to patients across Leeds in both home and clinic settings. You will undertake comprehensive, holistic patient assessments to ensure care is safe, effective and tailored to individual needs.

Your responsibilities will include the safe administration of intravenous medications, insertion and management of peripheral venous cannulas, and monitoring and maintenance of vascular access devices. You will also carry out blood sampling and observe patients for therapeutic response and potential complications, taking appropriate action where required.

Working autonomously for much of the day, you will manage a defined caseload, planning visits efficiently while maintaining accurate documentation and adhering to clinical standards and protocols. You will liaise closely with hospital teams, specialist services and colleagues within CIVAS to ensure continuity of care.

The role requires adaptability, clinical judgement and strong communication skills, enabling you to respond to changing patient needs while delivering high-quality care in a community setting.
