Service Description 

We are seeking the appointment of an enthusiastic candidate for a substantive Consultant post working for the Community Dental Service (CDS), based at St George’s Centre, Middleton. The available post is for 8 sessions but candidates wishing to work part-time or in a job share are encouraged to apply.  The post is designed to provide consultant leadership for the Leeds CDS.

We are a city-wide service with clinics at Yeadon, Middleton and Chapeltown and you would be expected to work from all 3 of these clinics. As a team we are committed to providing a high-quality service to our community and committed to developing as a team Good written, verbal and communication skills are essential and previous knowledge of dental software/systems would be desirable although training will be provided. The postholder will also be active in postgraduate teaching and will have opportunities to develop appropriate research interests.

We would like you to have a welcoming and positive approach for our patients and be a motivated and reliable member of the team. We will need you to be flexible in your approach to work as we will need you to work at all of the clinics across Leeds, so ability to travel is essential.

There is no on call with this post.

Applicants should be on the Specialist Register and have completed the Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Exam (ISFE) at the time of appointment (or within 6 months of time of interview) (Paeds)

Applicants should be on the Special Care Specialist Register and have completed 24 months of working at Specialist level at the time of appointment (Special Care)

Main duties of the job
  • Your primary responsibility will be to lead the service as a Consultant for Special Care Dentistry within Leeds CDS.
  • To take a lead role as Consultant for Special Care Dentistry within Leeds CDS
  • To be responsible for the delivery of high quality, comprehensive special care dental services for Leeds residents who cannot be treated within a General Dental Practitioner setting and whose needs fit with the remit of the Leeds CDS.
  • To provide a seamless dental service across the primary and secondary care boundary
  • To provide strategic direction and professional clinical leadership of the service.
  • To undertake regular clinical sessions and lead the General Anaesthetic Services for adults requiring specialist dental care in the Leeds CDS
  • To play an active role as trainer for JDFCT’s, Tier 2 participants, DCTs, StRs and other trainees within Leeds CDS.
