Healthcare Assistant

Vacancy Introduction

We understand the unique needs of children and young people, along with the challenges and opportunities they bring. Working for Leeds Community Healthcare in a secure environment is unlike any other role. We operate as a community within a community, delivering services such as nursing, GP, pharmacy, optometry, health promotion, and physiotherapy.

As a Healthcare Assistant at Wetherby YOI, Adel Beck SCH, and Aldine House SCH, you’ll support vulnerable young people aged 10–18. The role is varied, challenging, and rewarding, with HCAs integral to the team—participating in handovers, promoting health, and collaborating across services.

Responsibilities include supporting clinical assessments, risk management, and health needs; assisting with nurse-led clinics, minor injuries, and emergencies; delivering health promotion sessions; managing stock, procurement, and IPC standards; completing audits; and working holistically with CAMHS and substance misuse teams.

Experience in secure settings is desirable but not essential, as a full induction is provided. This role enables you to develop clinical and interpersonal skills while making a positive impact on some of society’s most vulnerable young people. You’ll work closely with prison departments, education, and probation to ensure holistic, compassionate care that influences health, well-being, and future choices.

We require an enthusiastic full time healthcare assistant to work within the healthcare team at both HMYOI Wetherby and Adel Beck Secure Children’s Home in Leeds. The post holders will support qualified nurses in delivering healthcare services, to some very vulnerable and highly complex young people.  Duties will include supporting G.P clinics, taking part in health promotion sessions, Sexual health screening, biological sampling, immunisation administration, phlebotomy, recording observations and providing support to young people on wing based / Unit based locations.

We are seeking to recruit staff who have a genuine desire to work with young people in a secure estate and who are passionate and committed to delivering high quality healthcare services that make a difference.

Experience of working with this client group and of working within a secure environment is desirable. You must hold the relevant NVQ level 2 or 3 or Care Certificate qualification or experience at working as a Health Care Assistant at Band 2 or 3 within a similar field.
