Vacancy Introduction
We are seeking a motivated, compassionate, and values driven Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust’s new Proactive Support Service. Funded by Leeds Integrated Care Board and delivered with Leeds City Council’s Corporate Parenting team, this small and growing multidisciplinary service supports children and young people on the edge of care or at risk of placement breakdown, helping prevent escalation into care and promoting long term stability. The service is newly launched with an exciting and innovative opportunity to integrate Speech and Language therapy within its core. As well as being focused around placement stability for Corporate Parenting, this service forms part of the Child with No Onward Destination pathway (CNOD) - aiming to prevent inappropriate or extended hospital stays for young people with no physical issues but who may be at risk of placement breakdown or require a new placement. Become part of a small, committed team where your voice will help shape an innovative and impactful service. You will play a central role in creating stability for young people by empowering the systems around them, while benefiting from the strong clinical support available across Leeds Community Healthcare’s wider Children's Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) service.
For queries specific to the role please contact Lisa Bolton on 07851103544. Any queries relating specifically to SLT please contact Hana Haziem on 07903879477.
In this role, you will use your specialist communication and developmental expertise to strengthen relationships, enhance communication safety, and stabilise home or placement environments for young people with complex social, emotional, communication, or developmental needs. Working flexibly across community settings, you will offer direct intervention as well as consultation to families, carers, social care, and education partners. We are looking for a reflective, innovative practitioner who is passionate about trauma informed and relational approaches, ideally with experience of Dyadic Developmental Practice or similar models.
A key aspect of the role is providing consultation, training, and reflective formulation to professionals and carers, helping them understand how communication needs, developmental trauma, and relational difficulties interact. You will support systems around the child to adapt expectations, environments, and interaction styles, reducing distress and contributing to multi agency care plans that prioritise stability and reduce escalation.
You will also provide specialist assessment and intervention to enhance communication, emotional expression, and relational safety. This requires working creatively and flexibly, often outside traditional clinic settings, to meet young people where they are and build trusting relationships. You will help develop communication friendly strategies that reduce conflict, build shared understanding, and support placements.
Please review the Job Description and Person Specification attached for full requirements of the role.
Adverts will close early where the maximum number of applicants is reached.
