Are you passionate about supporting adoptees and their families to flourish? Are you interested in being part of an expanding, multidisciplinary team within a regional adoption agency? We wish to appoint a dynamic and enthusiastic Clinical Psychologist to provide highly specialised clinical psychology assessment, support and consultation for children who are adopted, their families and the system around them.
One Adoption West Yorkshire (OAWY) is a regional adoption service across the 5 West Yorkshire Local Authorities and is hosted by Leeds City Council.
The OAWY is a multidisciplinary team working in partnership with wider adoption service providing, multi-layered, inter agency service, focused on the individual needs of adopted children and their families.
Leeds Community Healthcare Trust works in partnership with OAWY to employ healthcare professionals for the MDT and we are currently able to offer a temporary post until the end of January 2026 for a clinical psychologist to join our team. We welcome applications form experienced band 8a alternatively a band 7 post could be offered to those seeking a development opportunity.
We want to improve the wellbeing of the family members and the stability and quality of family life by working with and supporting staff and families. We seek to understand and support the child with the ongoing impact of early adversity as well as to recognise and respond to additional difficulties such as neurodevelopmental, educational or familial issues.
We are seeking a Clinical Psychologist with post qualification experience, including working with vulnerable children and their families. You will be knowledgeable about the impact of early life experiences on a child’s development and wellbeing and the importance of early and proactive intervention.
You will understand the complexity, multifaceted nature of difficulties experienced by adoptees and the need to take a whole-child approach. You will have experience of assessing and support to neurodiverse children and their families. You will be skilled in working with young children and families with high-risk safeguarding concerns. You will bring specialist theoretical knowledge in this area and will have undertaken further training that is relevant to working with this group of young people. You will have experience as a clinical supervisor and have a commitment to service-related evaluation/research. Training in assessments and interventions for children with difficulties commonly associated with adoption would be desirable.
We wish to recruit someone who can take a lead on areas of audit, evaluation and outcome monitoring within OAWY, who has skills in consultation and training to other professionals. We are seeking a candidate with a keen interest in engaging in service development; someone with systemic knowledge and the confidence to forge relationships with other services; and a team player with a willingness and desire to learn and develop alongside the team.
