Specialist Lead Nurse

Vacancy Introduction

We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Specialist Lead Nurse to join our Children’s Community Nursing Service within the Inclusion Nursing Team. This role provides an opportunity to make a meaningful difference by delivering specialist nursing care to children and young people with complex health needs, additional needs and learning disabilities.

The post is based within Leeds Specialist Inclusive Learning Centres (SILCs) across the city, where you will work in close partnership with education staff, families and multi disciplinary teams to support children to safely access education and achieve their full potential.

The service operates Monday to Friday, with working hours between 08:00 and 16:00, providing all year round cover (excluding bank holidays). We are committed to supporting work–life balance and will consider flexible working arrangements where possible.

Applicants must be a registered nurse with previous clinical experience working with children or adults who have complex health needs or additional needs. You will be supported into the role through a comprehensive induction, training programme and preceptorship, enabling you to develop the confidence and competence to work independently.

The role involves working across multiple sites, therefore access to transport and the ability to travel with appropriate business insurance is essential.

As a Band 6 Lead Nurse, you will deliver high quality clinical care within the SILC setting and hold a defined caseload of children with complex health needs. You will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care to ensure children are supported to safely access education.

You will provide leadership and development to a team of registered and non registered staff, offering clinical guidance, supervision and day to day support. The role includes overseeing daily clinical resources, coordinating shifts, and ensuring safe and effective service delivery.

A key element of the role is teaching and supporting colleagues, as well as delivering training to education staff, external professionals and families. You will work collaboratively across services with other clinical teams, reflecting our cross service model of care, and will have opportunities to support and gain experience within our wider Children’s Community Nursing teams.

We are seeking a caring, resilient and motivated individual who is an effective communicator, confident decision maker and able to prioritise, organise and delegate work appropriately. You will be encouraged to contribute to service development, lead on projects, and support continuous improvement within the Inclusion Nursing Team.
