Speech and Language Therapy Assistant

Vacancy Introduction

We are recruiting an enthusiastic and motivated Band 4 Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to join our Adult Speech and Swallowing Service in Leeds.

This is a development role with a clear career pathway for individuals interested in becoming a Speech and Language Therapist. The post includes the opportunity to apply for a degree apprenticeship with the University of Sheffield, subject to meeting entry requirements:

• A Levels: ABB, or
 • BTEC Extended Diploma: DDD in a healthcare or science subject, or
 • Access to HE Diploma: 45 Level 3 credits (36 Distinction, 9 Merit)
 Equivalent Level 3 qualifications will also be considered.

You will work within a supportive community SLT team, delivering therapy across a range of settings including patients’ homes, clinics and care homes. The role involves supporting qualified therapists with assessments, delivering therapy programmes and helping adults with communication and swallowing difficulties achieve improved outcomes.

Once established in post, and demonstrating readiness, you will be supported to apply for the Speech and Language Therapy Degree Apprenticeship.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a friendly and supportive Adult Speech and Language Therapy team delivering services across the Leeds community. 

Working closely with qualified Speech and Language Therapists, you will support the assessment and treatment of adults with communication and swallowing needs. You will help implement therapy programmes, contribute to patient reviews, and support individuals to maximise their communication and quality of life.

 The role requires someone who is compassionate, organised and motivated, with excellent communication skills and a genuine interest in developing a career within Speech and Language Therapy. You will work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to high-quality, patient-centred care.

 This role provides a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on clinical experience in a community setting while developing the skills and knowledge required to progress within the profession.

Due to the community-based nature of the role, the successful candidate must be able to travel independently across Leeds and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes. Reasonable adjustments will be considered in line with the Equality Act 2010.
